Reminising

With August already here I find myself mentally trying to prepare for the upcoming school year.  I have some new challenges ahead - returning to work after being away a full year while caring for my 2 boys and beginning a new school year at a new school.  I will be transferring from Corpus to St. Gabriel School in Kanata.  There I will continue to teach the FDK program while being close to home.

I've been sitting here on my couch looking back at all the pictures of your children (my students).  I have a heavy heart looking at all of the smiling faces, the drawings, playing, writing, problem solving, collaborating, questioning, and love that is shining out of all of them.

I spent 6 fabulous years at Corpus Christi and although I am looking forward to new challenges, I am deeply saddened to be leaving.  The parent community at Corpus has always been so supportive and kind to me. Thank you for wonderful memories - my heart runneth over.

He's Here!!!

It has been a long while since I have posted anything here on my blog. I apologize to all mom's an dad's who visited regularly and did not find any end of school year pictures (I still hope to get some up for you all). 

Im not to sure if anyone will get notification of this post, but I wanted to share my happy news!  The latest addition to my family came into the world on September 24 at 12:02 p.m. 

 

Introducing Charlie Michael Bean, weighing 9lbs 11oz!!! 

 

Austin is very proud to be a big brother. We are all healthy and well enjoying every moment.  I hope to visit my Corpus family to show him off very soon.

Ottawa Fury come to visit us at Corpus!

Two members of the Ottawa Fury soccer team spent a week at Corpus Christi, practicing some soccer drills with students.  On Monday June 9th, the kindergarten classes participated in some soccer drills, mastering their foot work.

Problem At The Part - A Retell

 

One of the skills we teach with in the Kindergarten program is developing the ability to retell a story after reading.  A story is broken into 3 parts - a beginning, a middle, and an end.  In the beginning we meet the characters and discover the setting of the story.  In the middle we are introduced to the problem and the events (about 4) that help to solve the problem.  In the end, we see the solution of the story and how the problem was solved.  This is also where we have opportunity to make any connections we have to the story.

 

We used pictures from the book, Problem at the Park, to retell the story on the Go Map.

Time is flying by WAY too quickly....it's hard to keep up with posting pics to keep you all in the loop.  I apologize if I don't have many words to describe our photos but, in the case, Im thinking a pictures says a thousand words!

Butterfly Release... Monday May 26th

Im a little behind in keeping my blog up to date and for that I greatly apologize!  It is time to catch you all up and share some pictures from our butterfly release.  After patiently waiting for 9 days, our chrysallis's hatched Painted Lady Butterflies. 

They enjoyed drinking orange juice in their cozy home until we released them outside in the Corpus play yard. 

 

We did some wondering...

 

"I wonder where they will fly too?"

They look similar to a monarch, but much smaller and it's colours are not as vibrant. 

 

 

Problem at the Park!

Problem at the Park is a lesson about taking turns and cooperation.  In this book, 2 cousins visit an amusement park together.  Mei and her cousin go on the swings, but he wants to go on the log ride. Mei takes her cousin on the car ride, but he still wants to go on the log ride.  Mei wants to go on the bumper boats, but her cousin speaks up...."It's not fair!" he cries.  He would like a turn on the log ride!. In the end, Mei and her cousin visit the log ride and have a blast! 

 

 

KP1 & KP2 have been reading this story very carefully for the past 2 weeks. A good reader always thinks about a story and how they can relate it to their own life - making connections! 

 

As I read, students were given a goal. Their reading goal was to listen carefully to the story and think about how the story reminded them of an event in their own life.

 

Their next task was to draw a picture of their connection.  They were encouraged to try their best to write words to go along with their picture, but (of course) Ms. Landry and Mrs. Bean were there to scribe for them and help record their thinking on paper.
