Surveys & collecting information

The BIG question these days in Kindergarten is, "Do you have an allergy?"  Im not sure what sparked the interest in knowing, but the students have been designing their own surveys and collecting their data.

Here is Josh's survey and the data he collected.

Both Zane and Alistair were asking students if they had allergies or not and then took their data one step further.  Ms. Carley (a student teacher) showed them how to use their information and create a graph. During our share talk before lunch, we shared their surveys and graphs.  It was great to show the children all the steps involved and how they can display the information they collect.

Love Bugs

Quin's Life Cycle of a Butterfly

The boys and I did some chatting about what things were "missing" from our mid-evil castle.  Armor, shields, catapolts, and swords are among some of the things we spoke of.  The children found some black and grey paper, tape and scissors and created their own swords.  Pretty crafty.

Olympic Fever! - February 6th 2014

David Morrow, a friend of Mme Chantal's, came to visit us at Corpus Christi.  He brough something pretty special with him - An OLYMPIC TORCH from the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics!!!!!

Family and friends stood on the side lines cheering him and all the other runners that day.  GO, CANADA GO!!!

The white track suit is what David was wearing as he ran with the torch.  Here he is holding the case that stores his torch.  Inside he also has a photograph and the olympic mittens he wore.

Thank you, Mr. Morrow for sharing such an incredible stories with us!

We all got a chance to have our picture taken with the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Torch!!  Here is a sneek peek....Cassia, Carter and Josh.  So cool!

Learning Center Time - February 4th and 5th

Lately, I have been asking a question and collecting information (data) from the students.  This has many of the children intersted in creating their own surveys.  Many students are interested in knowing who has allergies and if they like animals.  It's great to see them in action!

Groundhog Day Predictions - January 31st

With Ground Hog Day just around the corner, we took some time today to chat about what Ground Hog Day was all about.  We used our Smartboard to google all of the groundhog meteorologists around...Wiarton Willie, Shubenacadie Sam and  Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Phil.

At the end of the day seven students felt that Wiarton Willie would see his shadow, predicting another 6 weeks of winter.  Fourteen students voted, "NO", Wiarton Willie would not see his shadow and predict an early spring.  Well..... take a look at the links below.  You may wish you were living on the East Coast.  Shubenacadie Sam's prediction was much more favourable!
