I hope this classroom blog will be a useful tool for parents to stay up to date with what is cool and happening in kindergarten! Please take some time to explore. I have posted links to some interesting reads about the kindergarten child. You will also find links to various educational online games and reading and math tips that support the learning we are doing in the classroom.

Pen Pal Letters with St. Brother Andre School

I have spent several days through out this school year networking with other Kindergarten teachers within our school board to learn more about the FDK program so that I can ensure students are receiving the richest education they can.

I spent a morning at St. Brother Andre School in Ms. Joyce`s classroom in late March. She suggested that our classes write letters to one another and I couldn`t say no.  What a great opportunity to practice our writing skills but, to also communicate with other students and learn about others within our community.  Here are some pictures ...  Ill be sure to post some pictures of some of the letters as well.

Again, so proud of my Kinders.

Acts Of Kindness ~ April 18th

During the season of Lent the Kinders performed random acts of kindness to show their love for Jesus.  Although such acts are important all year round, we took special care to do random acts of kindness at home and at school during this special time.

As a class, the Kinders wanted to make flowers out of egg cartons.  Not to soon after, it was suggested by a student that each flower could have a nice message written on the leaves.  The plan was to leave a flower in the mailbox of every teacher at Corpus.

The teachers were deeply touched by the Kinder's kindness and I was one proud teacher!

A flower for every teacher with a kind message...
"Happy Easter!"
"Thank You!|
"Have a great day!"
"I love you!"
"Happy Spring!"

We had a flower for Mr. Carpini too.  He does so many kind things for us we wanted to show him how thankful we are. :)

KIndergarten Camera Workshop! ~ April 16th

This year I (once again) invited fellow school board employee, Elizabeth Valiquette, to join us in Kindergarten.  She spent a whole morning with us teaching us about the functions of a camera and different angles we can use when taking a photograph.

Zane practicing the "worm" shot.  When you use this particular strategy you lie on your belly and place the camera on the floor, aim and shoot!

We had some grade 4 helpers assist us through our workshop. Here are Alistair and

And now...let's take a selfie.

Mrs. Valiquette taught us about backgroud and how the backgroung you choose can make your
picture.

It was a great morning and the children had a great time being creative with their cameras. We will be using the cameras for a few more projects over the next couple of weeks.  Once we have taken our pictures, we are going to practice uploading them to a computer and printing them.

A visit from the Alta Vista Animal Hospital

Ava McGuire in KP1 shared her mommy with us!!!  Marge is a Vetranarian at the Alta Vista Animal Hospital.  She visited each classroom and spoke to us about her job as a Vetranarian.  She brought with her special tools she would use during surgury, and students got to dress up in a scrub hat, gloves and surgical mask.

We broke out into centers where students had opportunity to practice bandaging up animals, checking temperatures, and listening to our heart beats.  We examined x-rays and bones and even got to see some worms taken from a dog and teeth!

It was pretty cool!

Acts of Kindness During Lent...

During Lent the Kindergarten children have been sharing ways we can be kind and helpful by doing act of kindness.  Ways we can help at home are: "I can help tidy up my toys", "I can help my brother when he is crying." At school we can, "I can listen to the teacher", "I can be quiet in the hallways", "I can help a friend if they fall.", "I can ask a new friend to play." We have drawing and writing about our acts of kindness in our writing books.
