A bit of back tracking....

Here are a few pictures from early October...such great work, I couldn't not post them!

Carter's bird's nest.  Look at the detail!  He is quite the artist!

Learning that we can create colour, shape and size patterns.

Quinn. Another one of KPs young authours!

Alistair wrote a nice get well note for Ms. Emma, our co-op student from Immaculata.

Cooperation!  Longest AB pattern EVER!!!

These boys each created their own dog.  You will also see the dog house they made.  This creation lead to a discussion about how one would care for a pet dog.

Ramps!

Pumpkin Patch Visit ~ Proulx Berry Farm

The busses may have gotten us off to a late start, but that didn't keep all of the Kindergarten students from enjoying every moment at Proulx Berry Farm.  As soon as our feet hit the ground we were off, first beginning with a wagon ride through the haunted forest.

Next, we went on a Nature Scavenger Walk. With our clipboards in hand, we searched for squirrels, pine cones, and sticks shaped like the letter y.

After our walk, we enjoyed our lunches in the heated lunchroom (it was a pretty chilly morning).

The sun came out in time for us to enjoy climbing the hay stacks, walking the maze and sliding down the giant slide.

We visited the farm animals and met a very friendly pig!

Maira found a flower still attached to a vine!

My lil' pumpkins!

Thank you so much to all the parents who were able to volunteer their time and spend the day with us.  We can't do these trips without you!

So far...the trips still on!

According to the weather network, the rain should be done by 10 am, just in time for our arrival at the farm. Rain boots are a good idea for today!

Reading Buddies (October 4th)

On October 4th we started our Reading Buddies Program. Every Friday during the school year,  the grade 6 class will pair up with the english Kindergarten class and enjoy a book.  This is a great opportunity for the grade 6's to take on a leadership role while sharing the gift of literacy with the Kindergarten students.

A Look Back at September...

A small inquiry about structures captivated some of the KP2 students. The tower began as a single, tall, skinny structure that kept toppling over.  This caused students to rethink their design. How could they change their structure to make it more stable?  It wasn't long before they added a wider base to add stability to their growing tower!

Patterns are everywhere in FDK!  Way to go, Jeneesa!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  Roll the dice to build the Chicka Trees.

We have a lot of young authors and illustrators in FDK.  Sooo many books...sooo exciting! :)

Cyana's book. These are her coconut trees.  Notice the letters of her name climbing up the tree on the right side.

Bingo stampers + names = some pretty cool patterns!

Sorting upper and lower case letters! Good job, Richard!

WELCOME!

Welcome to Corpus Christi! I hope the school year has gotten off to a great start for your child and family.  Kindergarten is a special 2 year program and I look forward to working with you as partners in your child's education!

Please check our classroom bog regularly as I will post pictures and other bits of information about the learning that is taking place in the classroom.

The Kindergarten program at Corpus Christi is a Full Day Learning program that focuses on building a strong foundation of learning through play. We provide a classroom environment that is conductive to learning, that helps meet the developmental needs of each child.  We provide a variety of learning opportunities throughout the day.  At any given moment, the students may be learning by making discoveries, exploring or investigating either independently or guided by one of the teachers in the classroom.

"Play is a vehicle for learning and lies at the core of innovation and creativity..." (Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten Program, pg. 17)

When children are playing they are: analyzing, asking questions, creating, cooperating, developing, discovering, discussing, evaluating, expanding their vocabulary, experimenting, exploring, investigating, inquiring, learning, listening to others, manipulating, noticing, observing, planning, reflecting, sharing, solving programs, teaching, thinking and wondering!
