I hope this classroom blog will be a useful tool for parents to stay up to date with what is cool and happening in kindergarten! Please take some time to explore. I have posted links to some interesting reads about the kindergarten child. You will also find links to various educational online games and reading and math tips that support the learning we are doing in the classroom.

Fionn is making a sign for Peacock and Hotdog!

Children spend time drawing castles from books we borrowed from the library.

Later during our share talk time, we looked at drawing Carter, Alistair and Milo drew and searched for the 2D shapes!  We found triangles, squares, circles, and rectangles!

The Steps to Making a Snowman!

Instead of using a Snowman Mrs. Bean had bought at a store to decorate our door, we decided to make one ourselves!  We read the book "Snowballs" by Lois Ehlert.  We paid close attention to the material she used to decorate her snow people with.

First step was to make 3 snowballs.  We searched the room and found a hoola hoop, a sorting circle and clock to use as tracers for our snow person's body.

Next, we cut them out.  We brainstormed different material we could use to make him look fluffy.  Kleenex, cotton balls and white feathers did the trick.

Then we put our snowballs together. We had to decide what to use to decorate him.  He needed a face!!

We found some acorns for his eyes and nose, pom poms for his mouth and sea shells for buttons.

We used tissue paper to create a hat and used a pine cone as a pom pom. He has 2 forks as arms and pine needles to stand on.

Voila!  Our very own classroom snow person!

A Castle Inquiry

The 3D shapes in our classroom have found a new purpose...castles!  The children have sparked a new interest in castles and have been building fabulous structures.  These structures are also helping us understand how 3D shapes are used in the world around us!

With the new interest, Ms. Landry and the children built a castle for the dramatic play area.

These wooden blocks were a great find at TJ Maxx.  Wish I had bought more!

We have class pets....Meet Turbo, Peacock and Hotdog!
