November fun

The girls were all about matching the book to it's letter on the carpet.

Quinn and Cyana are determined to get to the bottom of our animal skull mystery.  As a class we discussed how we (as students) would go about finding new information to solve our problem. They came up with the following: 1) Visit a museum and compare our skull with others that are in the museum 2) look in a book 3) look on the internet 4) take a walk in a forest.  Pretty cool, huh?

Evie's cake!  She's quite the cook at home too!

Our volcano inquiry is still going strong. Students are drawing pictures of volcanoes, experimenting with baking soda and vinegar and we are planning on making a class volcano with paper mache!!!  Keep visiting for pictures!!

I wonder.... is it a fox?

Carter was on a walk at his cottage and came across a pretty cool thing. A SKULL!!!  That's right, a real skull.  Now what we are left wondering is, what animal could it belong to?

Check out the hair that remains.

"I wonder, could it be fox?" - Katie
I wonder, could it be a rabbit? - Mia

It looks like it had some pretty big fangs.

"I wonder if it was a meat eater?" -Fionn

Because we are curious in K, we do alot of wondering.  To assist in our research we found books from our classroom library and found images of animal skulls online.

Now it's time to do some comparing.

"The skeleton on it's teeth, on one side of it's soft....one side is soft the other is sharp. It's a meat eater."

Pumpkin Investigation Part 2

It all started with one big pumpkin...
Our pumpkin investigation allowed us to use many skills!
We used our sense to help us describe the pumkin and we estimated
(our best guess) how many seeds we would find within the LARGE
pumpkin in our room.
With the large pumkin we started with are some
others of various sizes. Our challenge..to predict what we
thought the other pumpkins would look like on the inside!

Julia's prediction.  Notice that she drew each pumkin and wrote down how many seeds she thought may be inside!

Sharing some of our predictions before we get started!

Okay, here we go!  What's inside the teeny tiny pumpkin?

Turns out that even the smallest of pumpkins have seeds.  We noticed that the smaller the pumpkin, the smaller the seeds!
There were sooo many seeds in the large pumpkin we cleaned out.  We decided to make groups of 10 seeds.  Then, we counted by 10's to our final count...462 seeds!

Our closest estimation was from Oliver E.  He estimated that there would be 200 seeds.

Our Pumpkin Investigation

I am ___________pumkins tall.
I am _____________ apples tall.

We mixed red, orange and yellow paint to create our silly pumpkins!  Aren't they great?!?

Everyone had a taste!
